Frequently Asked Drone Questions
We’re often asked about how we operate, the limits of drone technology, and what’s involved in booking us. Below are some of the most common questions and answers.
Are you fully certified to fly drones commercially?
Yes - we’re approved by the CAA for commercial operations and carry specialist drone insurance with £10 million public liability cover.
How high and far can you fly?
Technically drones can reach altitudes of 14,000+ feet and fly miles away, but UK regulations cap flights at 400ft above ground and within 500m of the pilot for safety.
How long do drones stay in the air?
Depending on the drone and payload, flight times range from 20 to 45 minutes. Weather, altitude, and flight style can shorten this, but we always carry multiple batteries for extended sessions.
Do you fly in bad weather?
For safety, we only operate in suitable weather. High winds, heavy rain, or poor visibility mean flights will be rescheduled.
Can you fly in London?
Yes. With our authorisations, careful planning, and permissions, we can operate in Central London as well as other complex, built-up areas.
What services do you provide?
We cover aerial filming, photography, surveying, inspections, mapping, thermal imaging, progress monitoring, 3D modelling, and more.
How far in advance should I book?
Ideally 7 days or more, though urgent jobs can often be accommodated if location and weather conditions allow.
Do you offer same-day turnaround?
Yes - standard photography and video can usually be delivered within 24 hours. Mapping and complex projects may take longer to process.
What’s involved before a flight?
Each project includes airspace checks, risk assessments, method statements, and equipment inspections to ensure safe and compliant flights.
Can you fly higher than 400ft?
With advance permissions from the CAA and NATS we can apply for exemptions to fly up to 500m, but this requires significant notice.
Can I be on site during filming?
Absolutely. We welcome clients on site and provide live previews where possible. A safety briefing is always given before flights begin.
What cameras do you use?
Our drones carry stabilised cameras capable of 4K–6K video and high-resolution stills. We also deploy thermal sensors and survey cameras for specialist tasks.
What areas do you cover?
We’re based in Hertfordshire but operate across the UK. We regularly work in rural, urban, and restricted areas with appropriate planning.
What are your rates?
Rates typically start at £650+VAT for half days and £1100+VAT for full days, with tailored pricing available for larger or specialist projects.
Do you fly indoors?
Yes - indoor flights aren’t subject to CAA airspace limits. Our drones use obstacle sensors and stabilisation systems to fly safely in enclosed spaces.
What payment methods do you accept?
Payments are made by BACS transfer. Card payments are not currently supported.
What’s a drone camera operator?
On larger drones, one operator pilots while another controls the camera gimbal. This ensures smooth and precise shots during filming.
Is your data secure?
Yes - all captured data is encrypted during transfer and stored securely. We also provide GDPR-compliant storage and can sign NDAs where needed.
